Use of Qualifying Hulls for World Championships
International Etchells Class Association
Rules Governing Use of Different Hulls in World Championship Events to Those Used to Qualify
Class Rule C.10.3 (h) provides for the Class International Governing Committee (IGC) to make and publish from time to time, competition rules governing the circumstances under which the owner of a yacht may use sails, validly acquired for that yacht, on another yacht while racing.
The IGC has agreed to the following competition rules:
1. An owner owning multiple registered yachts may use a different hull in the World Championship from the one used to qualify, but the sail card and sail number used in the qualification series shall be the same as those used in the World Championship.
2. An owner owning multiple registered yachts may qualify using a hull different to the one intended to be entered in the World Championship, but the sail card and sail number used in the qualification series shall be the same as those used in the World Championship.
3. An owner chartering a hull for the World Championship shall use the sail card and sail number from the yacht used in his or her fleet’s qualification series.
4. An owner using a hull from the loaner boat pool arranged by the World Championship Organising Committee shall use the sail card and sail number of the yacht used in his or her fleet’s qualification series. The original measurement certificates of both the yacht used to qualify and the one being used in the World Championship shall be presented at the World Championship registration. In all cases the same sail card and sail number shall be used in the World Championship as was used in the qualification series and the original sail card shall be presented at the World Championship registration.
Notwithstanding the above, the IGC reserves the right to review the above competition rules at any time and reject an entry to a World Championship if it considers an owner is taking unfair advantage of these rules. (April 2010 – revised October 2011)
